UK: Undergraduate Scholarship 2009/2010

Helena Kennedy
FoundationThe University is pleased to be associated with the Helena Kennedy Foundation, and will make a number of awards to those of you coming through this route. The Helena Kennedy Foundation exists to tackle injustice and social exclusion through education, by supporting you if you are disadvantaged and come from further and adult education sectors to complete your studies and move on successfully into employment.
For further information email the Helena Kennedy Foundation at enquiries[ at ]hkf.org.ukor visit www.hkf.org.uk
Terry Chalk Scholarship
This scholarship is in memory of Terry Chalk, a longstanding senior member of our Estates and Facilities Department. The scholarship is for three years, guaranteed for the first year, but subject to satisfactory academic progress for subsequent years.
Amount: Full tuition fee waiver, plus accommodation in the University’s halls of residence for the first year of study.
Eligibility: You must hold an offer of a place for a full-time degree within the School of Architecture and the Built Environment. It is intended for you if your family has no history of university education and whose annual income is below £27,500.
Criteria: Academic excellence and financial need.
Care Leavers Scholarship
Care leavers have a less than one per cent participating ratio in higher education. The University has developed new scholarships specifically for care leavers to encourage them to take up the opportunity of a university education. Up to ten scholarships of £4,000 or £2,000, depending on academic achievements, will be available for care leavers from London boroughs. Care leavers from outside London will also be considered sympathetically for our gold and silver scholarships.
Eligibility: Students must be holding the offer of a place on an undergraduate course at the University and must have recently been in the care of their local authorities. Priority will be given to students from London boroughs but we encourage all care leavers to apply for these scholarships. Scholarships will be of £4,000 or £2,000 per annum subject to previous academic achievements.
Organ Scholarship
The University has two historic cinema organs. We are looking for students who can play the organ to use these on a regular basis to keep them in good order. The successful applicant will be expected to play each instrument at least weekly. A cash award of £2,000 per annum is available to the successful candidate. Students should supply details of their ability and achievements as a musician. Students may apply at anytime for this scholarship but priority will be given to early applicants.
Scholarships for students with disabilities
In line with its commitment to providing education for all, the University has a number of scholarships available for you if you have achieved academic excellence in spite of severe disabilities. These will be at gold or silver levels, and you must have an offer of a place on a full-time undergraduate course at the University. These scholarships will not take into account any other funding you may have from other sources.
Progression Scholarships and Westminster Careers Awards
The University has a number of progression scholarships for you if you are a current full-time UK/EU undergraduate student who is about to enter your second year.
There are two types:
If your entry qualifications were not exceptional but you have achieved a minimum 60 per cent average at the end of your first year at the University.
Westminster careers awards.
These are open to you if you have outstanding entry qualifications and have achieved an overall average at the end of your first year of 60 per cent minimum. These scholarships will provide enhanced careers advice and opportunities.
Both scholarships will be worth £3,000 per annum, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Applications will open on 14 July 2009 and close on 31 August 2009.
You will need to provide evidence of your entry qualifications and a transcript of your first year results.
These scholarships are not open to you if you hold any other University scholarships. These scholarships will pay your tuition fees and are not available as cash.
The application form for these scholarships is only available on a website at www.westminster.ac.uk/page-9316
